Capital One Cafés are perplexing. Or at least they used to be, before capitalone.com/Local
Capital One created Cafés for a really compelling business reason. People are far more likely to sign up for a bank account if there is a single instance of physical presence of a bank in their area.
But the customer story is more confusing. What can I do at a Café? Why would I go there?
/Local was designed to answer these questions and questions like it. We interviewed dozens of people new to or regulars of the Cafés, and we found out what they understood and did not understand about Cafés. We designed a site to meet their needs and the needs of the business.
We built in an entire events platform for in-Café events and worked with our Marketing, Legal, and Money Coaching teams to make sure the content did its job perfectly.
The site that exists today is much different than the one that we launched, but the spirit is still there, and I still see much of the work we did in this iteration of /Local.
